| Bio: | Ooh, a mini-biography? I take it that means all the interesting bits. Date of birth: 27/01/80 Hmm... I guess I *was* born at some point, but I don't honestly remember and so only really have my parents' word for it. Life was pretty dull up until puberty, where it continued to be dull but at that point I actually realised it *was* dull and subsequently wished it was more interesting. Then I came to University, where things became much more interesting and I met the love of my life. However, I managed to throw off the alcoholism eventually leaving the stable, well-adjusted individual you don't see before you today. Date of death: TBA I'm a perpetual student, in that I've now spent over a quarter of my life in University. The real world scares me. No, really. I dread the thought that I'll ever have to get up consistently in the morning before 10am. It keeps me up at night. Drastic action was called for, and therefore once I completed my BSc I promptly signed up for 3 years more academic action. The tedium of my PhD was broken up by a 6 month stint doing research for the European Space Agency. I created a technique with a funky acronym, GASP, and that's all I was really aiming for. Hopefully we'll get some more funding on it at some point, as I really enjoyed the project. My PhD is now complete, as of the 6th July 2006, so finally my username has become true. Worship my doctorial status ;) Anyway, anyone can feel free to add me, but I should probably add the disclaimer that I am a very hard-headed, skeptical atheist. In fact, my current beliefs about the state of the Universe can be summarised as follows: * God - not real * Telepathy - not real * Telekinesis - not real * Talking to the dead - not real * Ghosts - not real * Homeopathy - placebo * Reiki healing - placebo * [addendum] Acupuncture - evidence suggests some mild pain-relieving ability above placebo. Foundations in terms of Qi energy still bullshit. * Basically all other alternative medicine - placebo * Moon Landing - happened * 9/11 - pissed off Muslims * AIDS - caused by HIV, you morons * Earth - 4.5 billion years old * Humans - descended from common ancestors with apes * Creationists - need to be less stupid * Consciousness - far from understood but probably of materialistic origins * Pizza - tasty I'm quite happy to have discussions on any of those, although my knowledge of evolution versus Creationism is by far the greatest.
